Most recent expo was held in Milan, Italy in 2015.
Dubai, UAE has been selected to host World Expo 2020. World Expo 2020 will be held between 20 October 2020 and 10 April 2021. The Expo site of 438 hectares, is located in the Dubai South district, near the Al Maktoum International Airport. “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” is the main theme of Dubai Expo. Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity are subthemes.
The Dubai will be attended by trade delegations from nearly 170 nations worldwide. It will bring global academia, think tanks, pressure groups, and NGOs together under one roof. It will bring micro, small and medium-sized business alongside corporations. It will bring governments, government and state-run agencies and other public-sector bodies. Together they will connect minds, connect values and connect innovation to help solve the world’s biggest problems – in sustainability, in mobility, and in opportunity.
As Dubai wins the right to host Expo 2020, fireworks erupt from the Burj Khalifa, holiday announced for all educational institutions across the UAE. The reason the expo has become such as big deal in Dubai is because analysts believe it will boost UAE economy. The government spends a predicted $7 billion on infrastructure, with the benefit expected to trickle down to other industries. Dubai has already seen a surge in property prices and expected a trend of more stable and sustainable growth to persist over the short term. Dubai Expo expecting around 25 million visitors out of which around 20 million will be international visitors. Because of these visitors hospitality industry and other industries will see high rise as these 20 million visitors spending money everywhere from food to shopping to entertainment to business investments, which is going to boost the economy estimated around $20–30 billion.
The main benefit of this expo will be observable in the direct enhancement of GDP, as there will be thousands of job creation in infrastructure and hospitality industries. The boosts in economy because of this occasion will not only trace the Dubai region but the rest of the UAE as well.
